The Professional Women Controllers annual conference, held in Portland OR this year, was a wonderful event. The ladies, and some gents, said they enjoyed all of the presentations and thought the conference was well organized. I was fortunate to be able to attend the presentation ‘Against All Odds, Sioux City Accident and How It Changed Safety’ given by none other than Captain Al Haynes. Captain Al Haynes was the pilot of United flight 232 which crash landed in Sioux City IA in July 1989 with 184 survivors, 111 deceased. He has written a book about his experience ‘Chosen to Live’. The presentation was chilling, inspiring, and informative. I have been dramatically reminded of the importance of listening to the flight attendants present the safety information and I now count the number of rows between me and the nearest exits. I now understand how extremely difficult it would be to see the exit or any safety lighting on the floor when the cabin is filled with black smoke and/or fire. Enough said, listen to the safety announcement and know how to open that emergency exit door!
So my jewelry show with the PWC ladies and men was a success and again, I thank them all for their purchases and kind compliments!
See you in New Orleans April 2012…. Who Dat?!
